To get an Italian study visa from Pakistan, your university must first validate your pre-enrolment on the Universitaly portal. You then need to show at least EUR 10,179.85 a year in funds and apply through the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad. For the 2026/27 academic year the visa application deadline is 30 November 2026. We checked these rules on official Italian government pages on 2 November 2026.

Who this is for: Pakistani students admitted to a bachelor's or master's degree at an Italian university, and anyone planning for the 2027/28 intake.

What is the deadline to apply?

For degree courses starting in the 2026/27 academic year, the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad gives 30 November 2026 as the visa application deadline. The Italian Ministry procedures set 31 October 2027 as the deadline for degree courses in 2027/28.

Academic yearVisa application deadline (bachelor's, master's, single-cycle degrees)
2026/2730 November 2026
2027/2831 October 2027

Pre-enrolment deadlines are different. Each university sets its own and publishes it on its website, so check your university's page early.

How does the process work from Pakistan?

You cannot book a study visa appointment yourself first. The embassy contacts you after your university validates your Universitaly application.

  1. Get admitted to your Italian university.
  2. Submit a pre-enrolment application on Universitaly (universitaly.it). This is required before any other enrolment step.
  3. Wait for your university to validate it. Only validated applicants can apply for a visa. The Ministry procedures allow a validation "with reservations" only for a language test or admission exam you have not taken yet.
  4. Wait for the appointment email. The embassy allocates appointments through BLS-Intiana. It writes to the email address you used on Universitaly. Appointments go in order of the date your university validated your application.
  5. Submit a complete application at your appointment. The embassy says applicants are responsible for meeting all document and eligibility rules.

The embassy only accepts students who permanently live in its consular jurisdiction.

Do I pay anyone to get an appointment?

No. The embassy says neither it nor BLS-Intiana asks for deposits, fees or commissions to book a study visa appointment. Neither has an official WhatsApp or mobile number for contacting applicants.

If someone asks you for money for a slot, the embassy asks you to report it to urp.islamabad@esteri.it with any supporting documents. BLS-Intiana's official contacts are its website intianaitalyvisa.com, phone +92 51 8490870 and info@intianaitalyvisa.com.

How much money do I need to show?

At least EUR 10,179.85 per year, in a bank account in your name, according to the Islamabad embassy's study visa checklist. The embassy also looks at whether enough money will be available every month, based on your family's wider financial situation, not one balance.

AcceptedNot accepted
Funds in a bank account in the student's nameCash
A scholarship from a reputable Italian institution, or a foreign body the embassy considers reliableGuarantees from people outside your family unit
A sponsor affidavit stating the resources, their origin, the duration of support and the amount (apostilled and translated into Italian)Bank guarantees and surety bonds

If your sponsor is employed, the checklist asks for 3 years of income tax returns, 6 months of payslips, 6 months of bank statements signed and stamped by the bank, the employment contract and an employer letter. Business owners add company registration documents. A sponsor who lives outside Pakistan must also have the affidavit legalised by the Italian embassy or consulate there.

The Ministry procedures add that about EUR 500 more is needed for your return journey, which a return ticket can cover. They also say real estate and vehicles are not counted.

What insurance, accommodation and language proof is needed?

  • Health insurance: at least EUR 30,000 of cover for emergency hospital treatment and repatriation, valid across the Schengen area. You must show cover again when you apply for your residence permit in Italy. For a wider view of your options, see our guide to health insurance for international students.
  • Accommodation: one of a hotel or residence booking, a declaration from a private host using the official form, or a declaration from the university covering accommodation costs.
  • Language: for English-taught programmes, a B2 certificate covering listening, reading, speaking and writing, such as IELTS or TOEFL, or an equivalent certificate from the Italian university. Italian-taught programmes need B2 Italian from a recognised body.

What happens after I arrive in Italy?

Within 8 working days of entering Italy, you must apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) for study. Your study visa is a national type D visa, which is different from a short-stay Schengen visa. Our guide explains how Schengen and national visas work for students.
